Re: Where Does Business Logic Go?
by Anonymous
I'm not usually one for commenting on blogs, but this has been such enjoyable reading that I simply had to say something. I'm nearing the completion of a Software Engineering degree (and as such am surrounded by young, enthusiastic Computer people with little real business experience) and am entirely refreshed by seeing the stuff here on your blog. Generally speaking, they believe that all things Microsoft are inherently evil, all variables in code should have no more than a 3 letter name, and if you can write the program with only a main method, why would you bother with other functions...it would just clutter things up! (Perhaps I am slightly overstating their approach to things, but it makes working as a TEAM very difficult when trying to develop what should be simple software... ) I too am young and enthusiastic, and have only limited business experience but I prefer getting a job done simply than showing all the things one could do with the code. Not ONCE in my classes have they reminded us to code with the next guy in mind...instead we generally have focused on more and more complex versions of things as we have come closer and closer to then end of our academic endeavors. It is nice to be reminded that the software business is actually more about meeting business goals than having very fancy software that accomplishes only small tasks. Thanks for a refreshing splash of business-aware logic in a generally highly-enthusiastic-about-all-the-wrong-things arena!
